Who’s behind it?

I’m Eoghan Walsh, a writer based in Brussels since 2009.

I founded the website Brussels Beer City in 2017, where I write about Brussels and the myriad connections its beer community has with hsitory, food, art, culture, and society. I’ve also written for The Irish Times, Good Beer Hunting, Ferment Magazine, Belgian Smaak, Pellicle, and Belgian Beer and Food Magazine. Along the way, I’ve been lucky enough to pick up some awards for that writing, including Young Beer Writer of the year in 2018, Best Self-Published Beer Writer in 2022, and a bunch of gold medals from the North American Guild of Beer Writers.

This is my first foray into football writing.

Where does the title come from?

"Maradona, turns like a little eel, he comes away from trouble, little squat man... comes inside Butcher and leaves him for dead, outside Fenwick and leaves him for dead, and puts the ball away..."

It’s from a famous line of commentary by the BBC’s Byron Butler, talking about Diego Maradona’s iconic slalom through the English defence during the 1986 World Cup in Mexico.
